independent hospice movement which are to meet the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the patient with progressive and advanced illness, and of their loved ones. the hospice consists of 8 in-patient bed, used for symptom and pain management, respite care and end of life care. each room is single occupancy with en-suite facilities. there are two larger rooms, one being a family room and one with a walk in bathroom/ wet room. a guest room is available to relatives who wish to stay overnight. the hospice has a day care facility which caters for up to 15 patients per day which provides palliative care to an individual whose condition is not curable and aims to closely monitor any symptoms and aims to control them. a person may be admitted at different stages during their illness for a short period of care, for rehabilitation after treatment, for management of pain or symptoms (such as nausea or vomiting) or for end-of-life care. the hospice is not a long term unit so most patients only stay for a short period of time in the hospice to alleviate symptoms and then will return to their home or normal place of care. an average length of stay can be anywhere
